MESSAGE:
“(Galatians 4:4)
The announcement of Christ’s coming to earth is the greatest news in the history of the world. It is earth shaking! Can you imagine the dynamics of this message? This news bulletin would have been on a par of God saying, “Let there be light,” in the midst of total darkness, and the light appears! This is no more astounding than Christ’s news flash upon His arrival into the world, saying, “I am the light of the world” (Jn. 8:12). This declaration is God’s great manifestation of love toward us. The Bible says that, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 Jn. 4:9-10).
This all began in eternity past. You see, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit had a council meeting (Isa. 48:16-17). One of the many things that came out of this council was God’s wonderful plan to show His love, forgiveness of sin, and the gift of eternal life to every believing member of the human race (Eph. 2:8-9). The plan called for God the Son to become a sinless member of the human race through the virgin birth (Gen. 3:15; Isa. 9:14; Mt. 1:20-23), thus qualifying Him to be the sin bearer (Jn. 1:29).
The Big Question
You may ask why? Why would God do that? Well, you are not alone in a search for an answer. The Psalmist, too, asks saying, “When I consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man, that You are mindful of him or the Son of Man, that You visited him? For You have made Him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned Him with glory and honor. You made Him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under His feet: All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth” (Ps. 8:3-9)!
The Big Answer
The answer is, “God is love” (Ps. 86:15; Eph. 2:4; 1 Jn. 4:8,16). That is Who God is! That is what He does! It is this great love that compels God the Father to be the greatest giver in the entire universe (Jas. 1:17). Jesus Christ was God the Father’s greatest love gift to the world (Jn. 3:16; 2 Cor. 9:15; 1 Jn. 4:9-10). Christ is love personified!
The Big Gift
The greatness of this gift is magnified when we realize that Christ was unique. He is the “only begotten Son!” It was through the Virgin Birth that He became both God and man in one person (1 Tim. 2:5). As such, He was the only member of the human race qualified to be a substitute for sinners. The Bible calls this a “great mystery” (1 Tim. 3:16). As God, He is able to save; and as Man, He was able to identify with humanity (“numbered with the transgressors” – Mk. 15:28) and die. His death was our death, His burial was our burial, and His resurrection was our resurrection (Rom. 6:3-6; Heb. 2:9), thus, paying the sinner’s sin debt in full (Col. 2:13-15).
The Big Results
With His work for salvation finished (Heb. 9:26; 10:10), Christ returned to Heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father (Acts 2:30-35), waiting to save believing sinners (Heb. 7:25), who will trust His finished work as full and final payment for sin (Rom. 10:13; Gal. 3:22). Thus, by believing, the sinner becomes a child of God (Jn. 1:12). Furthermore, as a child of God, he is an heir of all things with Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:17). The believer also receives the hope (confident expectation) of a glorious resurrection with a resurrection body exactly like Christ’s (Phil. 3:20-21). This will occur when Jesus Christ returns for believers. We will then be face to face with Him to reign with Him forever and forever in eternity. That is great news!
The Big Decision
Have you taken advantage of God’s wonderful plan of grace? Have you experienced God’s wonderful love? I believe God “sent forth His Son…in the fullness of time” – the right time! Yes, it’s Christmas Time! It’s Christ’s birth that we celebrate. Are you prepared for Heaven? God has sent forth His Son for you.
There is only one preparation for eternity and that is to cast aside all other confidences and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation (Acts 16:31). To fail, in preparing for eternity with God, means an eternity without God – forever in the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:11-15). Why not bow your head and heart right now and tell God the Father that you are trusting Christ to be your Savior?”
